Texas Southern University's Founder's Day is September 14

Eighty-three years ago on September 14, 1927, the Houston Colored Junior College was created.  The state of Texas purchased that college in 1947 and renamed it the Texas State University for Negroes and finally Texas Southern University in 1951.  On Tuesday, September 14, 2010, the university family will celebrate, for the first time, the founding of one of this nation’s premiere historically black universities.  I spoke TSU spokesperson Eva Pickens about Founder’s Day.
